@ cyberlarry7: William Wyler absolutely HATED this music and wanted someone else to write a new score. Gregory Peck - who co-produced the film - and enthusiastic comments from preview audiences persuaded Wyler to keep Moross's wonderful work, even though he couldn't appreciate it. I do not comment as I am afraid who will comment on my comment. I like this music. I saw this movie as a 6 year old kid in 1958. The music So Grand and opening music can't be fully be appreciated without seeing those first scenes showing the stage coach crossing the vast expanse of the Western prairie and the Grandness that lie there. To my taste the best Western ever made. A triumph. William Wyler indeed broke throw the narrative of good fighting bad guys and gave us a depiction of manhood with dignity and honor beyond the violent machismo. I told you I'ld shot! Why didn't you believe me? Damn you.
